The term 'confection' is absolutely true of juice powder products, some with content up to 25%. Maltodextrin is a combination of maltose and dextrin, both simple sugars. Clever marketing and hype may get away with calling this a complex sugar, but it is certainly not classed as a complex carbohydrate. The Australian and New Zealand Food Authority officially class maltodextrin as sugar.
Evan's comment regarding oxidization of juice powders is absolutely correct - these products would oxidize very quickly without the added sugar. The difference with SAFE's green food products is that they are not juice powder products, but rather wholefoods. The green shoots are harvested at their nutritional peak then dried at body temperature and ground without the use of heat or friction. The nutrients and other valuable properties are preserved within the fibre of the shoots, therefore absolutely no additives are necessary and oxidization does not occur. The shelf life of SAFE's products is 3-4 years.
Compare SAFE's pure, wholeleaf green foods to highly processed juice extracts and it's an easy choice to make. The statement that juice extracts are "truly as close to fresh cut grass as you can get" is rather comical. Please see http://www.greenbarley.com/SAFE.html
