Green
Barley vs. Wheatgrass
Wheatgrass is a product that became very popular in the
sixties when many people started to realise the power of green,
raw foods. Since this time, green barley has been accepted
as perhaps containing slightly higher concentrations of certain
nutrients.
That being said, it is interesting to note that the main factor
in determining the nutritional content of green grasses is
the conditions under which they have been grown. For
example, green barley grass grown in a shallow tray indoors
would have very little nutritional value compared to wheatgrass
shoots grown in the open ground in full sun.
It is quite surprising what a dramatic effect these conditions
have on the final concentration of nutrients in a green food
product such as wheatgrass or green barley. For this
reason, Sustainable Agriculture & Food Enterprises (SAFE)
have performed extensive research in this area to achieve
the finest green barley & wheatgrass products available.
SAFE's green barley & wheatgrass is grown in what is recognised
worldwide as a relatively unpolluted and safe area of planet
Earth. The roots of the plants penetrate many metres into the
rich, volcanic, Australian soils. Nutrients are concentrated
within the green shoots which are harvested before the jointing stage
and at their nutritional peak. SAFE is committed to only using
organic growing techniques and as such, no toxic chemicals or
fertilizers are used in this process.
Despite the almost identical nutritional value of green barley
and wheat grass, SAFE has recognised that some people will
be more comfortable with a product they know. For this
reason, you may choose between SAFE's organic Green Barley
Powder or SAFE's organic Wheatgrass Powder. Whichever
you choose, you may rest assured that your body will receive
the maximum benefit from these green foods.
